Millionaires and billionaires

  • Before Taylor Swift came Shania Twain: Come On Over is the bestselling country album of all time, while her Las Vegas residency earned her a rumoured US$1 million per show
  • It’s not just music that rakes in millions for Dolly Parton – her Dollywood theme park is worth an estimated US$165 million, and she has other lucrative businesses too

Famous for soulful ballads and banging dance tunes alike, country music has birthed some of the biggest selling artists in the music industry. Of course, mega star Taylor Swift also started her career as a country singer before dominating the pop charts.

The country genre, a style of American music that originated in rural parts of the South and West in the early 20th century, incorporates elements of folk, bluegrass, blues and rural dance music. The result? Some of the catchiest and most lucrative songs in music history.

Thanks to the genre’s large fan base, country music’s biggest stars have been raking in millions for decades, with some singers even coming out of retirement due to popular demand.
