Meet Away’s glamorous co-founder Jen Rubio, a fashionista in the making

The co-founder of luggage manufacturer Away has been making fashion waves at Cannes and the Met Gala – so who is she exactly?
Jen Rubio, the co-founder of luggage manufacturer Away, has never really been known for her style, but the businesswoman’s red carpet appearances in the past year seem to be signalling a new era for the entrepreneur.
At the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Rubio swapped out her signature bob with side-swept fringe and office attire for a Hollywood-style blowout and a vintage YSL couture gown. Since then, Rubio has been stunning on red carpets and has become a regular at fashion shows.

More recently, Rubio stunned in a custom Ashi Studio corset and column skirt at the Met Gala. She was joined on the red carpet by her husband, Stewart Butterfield, who earned his billions as the co-founder of platforms such as Slack and Flickr. They were previously known as “Silicon Valley’s ‘It’ couple” – and for good reason.
Rubio has also recently been elected as a trustee for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The couple has pledged over US$23 million to the institute’s internship programme, according to The Art Newspaper.

Rubio and Butterfield’s presence at the recent Met Gala, this year dubbed the “Tech Gala”, also signals the influx of tech billionaires into the fashion industry, including Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, who were named honorary co-chairs at this year’s gala.
So who is Jen Rubio? Here is everything you need to know.
