The first Monday of May has passed, but the Met Gala fever isn’t calming down any time soon. The high-profile event brought together the most prominent names in fashion, entertainment, business and Big Tech in support of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s “Costume Art” exhibition.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, served as honorary chairs and lead sponsors for the event, reportedly contributing US$10 million. Their involvement caused major controversy and was heavily protested. Abbott Elementary star Lisa Ann Walter even joined the Labour is Art protest in Manhattan, calling Jeff Bezos “Temu Lex Luthor who profits off of pushing working people to their very brink”.

The total amount raised at the 2026 Met Gala reached a record high of US$42 million, of which a good portion came from companies like Amazon, Meta, OpenAI and Snapchat purchasing tables at the event, according to Fortune. Notable tech leaders, such as Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Instagram head Adam Mosseri, Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, Google co-founder Sergey Brin and OpenAI’s head of global creative partnerships Charles Porch also attended.

What’s Charles Porch’s background?

Not much information is available about Porch’s personal life. However, his husband, philanthropist Robert Denning, revealed in an interview with Vogue that he’s half-French and that they both have “childhood memories of everywhere from the Musée D’Orsay to the Petit Palais”. Porch also told the outlet that he is “the child of a historian”.
