The competition invites creators to express their dreams and ideals about the future of city living in Hong Kong, reflecting on the fabric of community built through Henderson Land’s most iconic buildings in its history of close to half a century.
Competition details
The “Realising Your Imagination” competition invites those who are passionate about the arts to express their imagination about Hong Kong and the ideal community with multimedia artworks that are inspired by Henderson Land’s numerous property developments that have shaped the city over the years. Entries must reflect Henderson Land’s three brand principles: promoting innovation, sustainable living and people-centricity. Some examples include artworks that envision how future technology can be infused into daily life; how communities can cohabit with nature in future residences; or an accessible city comprising well-being and a caring work-life culture.
The competition is separated into two groups: public entries, for Hong Kong residents over the age of 18, and student entries. Any kind of artwork will be accepted as long as it is a still or moving image in digital format – from still photography to hyper-realistic digital renders, short films and beyond. Each piece must include a 200-word explanation in English or Chinese.

To fuel creativity, there is a combined prize pot totalling HK$380,000. Third-place winners will take home HK$10,000 each, and runners-up win HK$30,000 each. First-place winners each get HK$50,000, plus an art trip for two to Europe to further their passion for creativity.
Winning pieces will be judged on how well they adhere to the theme, the use of visual language and digital techniques, creativity, and the overall message of positivity.
An illustrious history
Founded in 1976 and listed in Hong Kong in 1981, Henderson Land has been an integral part of Hong Kong’s skyline. With a broad portfolio of award-winning landmarks, it boasts numerous skyscrapers across Hong Kong and mainland China that showcase collaborations with some of the world’s leading architects and sustainability professionals – including Hong Kong’s grade A office tower, the International Finance Centre (IFC) – designed by Argentine-American architect Cesar Pelli. The latest jewel in its crown will be The Henderson. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, The Henderson will bring the studio’s amorphic, organic forms to the heart of Hong Kong’s CBD with a Bauhinia-inspired design. It is slated to be completed in 2023.

Henderson Land is also behind transformative and luxury-minded residential properties such as Double Cove in Ma On Shan, ArtLane in Sai Ying Pun, Hung Hom’s Baker Circle, Tai Kok Tsui’s Square Mile and The Henley in Kai Tak, as well as One Innovale and Eden Manor in Fanling.
In mainland China, the developer has built cityscape icons in tier-one cities, such as the World Finance Centre (WFC) office tower in Beijing, and commercial landmarks Lumina Guangzhou and Lumina Shanghai.
The group is chaired by the Lee brothers – Martin Lee Ka-shing and Peter Lee Ka-kit – who recently announced a HK$113 billion investment in a plot of land dubbed Site 3 at Hong Kong’s Central harbourfront next to the IFC. Site 3 will comprise three world-class landmark buildings spanning 1.6 million sq ft that aim to vitalise the area – creating a link between the “hinterland and harbourfront” from the Central harbourfront to the rest of the city – as well as vast amounts of green and public spaces. It is set to be completed in two phases in 2027 and 2032.

‘Realising Your Imagination’
The two co-chairmen appeared in the latest “Realising Your Imagination” corporate video, which introduces the group’s most recognised architectural projects and the spirit of “people-centricity” in each of the homes, offices and commercial spaces it builds. The new brand slogan “Realising Your Imagination” signals the group’s continued devotion to the needs of the community – from sustainable development to fulfilling individual needs and empowering creativity.
“Since day one, counting back to 1976, we have been restlessly tapping into cultural insights, better understanding our audience and dissecting the ever-changing needs and demands of society,” Peter Lee said in the video.

Speaking about the group’s commitment to creating value for the future, Martin Lee said: “Property development is not just about architectural design. It’s about anticipating future needs and purposefully innovating new concepts, because new possibilities can be found within the details of creativity and technology.
“We will continue to improve, evolve and innovate, realising the dreams and visions of the people we serve and the cities we call home,” he added.
