Mark Carney became leader of Canada's Liberal Party, replacing the outgoing Justin Trudeau, in March 2025. Five days later his party won a general election, making him the prime minister of the country. His previous roles include being the governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008-2013, and the governor of the Bank of England from 2013-2020; he was the first non-Briton in history to be appointed to the latter role.
