How the founder of Dan-D Foods went from Vietnam war refugee to ‘cashew king’ of Canada
After rising from humble beginnings, Dan On has been on a mission to build a sustainable community by giving back to the underprivileged.
Dan On was only a teenager when he fled war-torn Vietnam and became a refugee in Canada, where he immediately went to work to support his adoptive family. Years later, as Vietnam started to reopen in the 1990s, On was encouraged by his adoptive father to start a cashew business in his homeland. Today, Dan-D Foods is a leading exporter of cashews and other nut snacks from Vietnam. And through the company’s rise, On has remained committed to supporting underprivileged communities in Vietnam as well as Canada.
