Pizza takeaway in pandan leaves instead of cardboard helps pandemic-hit weavers in the Philippines

Cardboard pizza boxes are no longer the only choice for pizza takeaway orders in the Philippine province of Laguna. The BrickOven restaurant started its pizza takeaway service with an eco-friendly twist by using handcrafted containers woven from pandan leaves more commonly used for making hats or spicing up dishes in Southeast Asia and South Asia. The cardboard alternative is also helping the local weaving industry deal with economic hardships caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Over 140,000 Coronavirus cases have been reported in the Philippines as of August 12, 2020.
