A court in Thailand has dismissed a royal insult case brought against former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The case stemmed from an interview Thaksin did in 2015 with foreign media. Thaksin’s lawyer, Winyat Chartmontree, said the August 22, 2025, acquittal was due to insufficient evidence provided by the royalist military. Thaksin has repeatedly pledged allegiance to the king, with the king even reducing his prison sentence by seven years for a previous case.
