Violence erupted in Dhaka on December 19, 2025, after the death of Bangladesh protest leader Sharif Osman Hadi. A key figure in a 2024 uprising and candidate in 2026 elections, Hadi died from injuries sustained in a shooting a week earlier. Interim leader Muhammad Yunus condemned the killing as a premeditated attack meant to disrupt coming elections.
