Disgraced former prime minister Najib Razak, once a powerful force in Malaysian politics, was found guilty on December 26, 2025, of 21 counts of money laundering and four counts of abuse of power linked to the corrupt 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) sovereign wealth fund. Najib was convicted of misappropriating 2.3 billion ringgit (US$568 million) in funds that were meant for development projects. He is already halfway through a six-year sentence on a related conviction.
