Thailand’s ‘Death Fest’ offers new perspective on the end of life
Three-day event brings together exhibits, discussions and workshops to encourage visitors to talk about the inevitable.
At Thailand’s “Death Fest”, visitors are invited to climb into caskets and reflect on their own mortality. The three-day fair from March 13-15, 2026, themed “old, sick, dead”, draws on Buddhist ideas about life’s unavoidable suffering and impermanence. Organisers bring together organisations and experts in healthcare, financial planning and palliative care, funeral services and memorial innovations, offering sessions on both maintaining the quality of life and preparing for death. One organisation is the online memorial platform Sharesouls, which shows families how to store photos and stories and create digital spaces to remember their loved ones and even beloved pets.
