Myanmar’s detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been moved to house arrest, state media reported on April 30, 2026. It has been more than five years since the country’s military ousted the civilian government that was led by the Nobel laureate. The 80-year-old Suu Kyi has been detained by ‌the junta and her whereabouts have been unclear since the February 2021 coup. The takeover triggered a deadly civil war that has engulfed much of the impoverished Southeast Asian nation.
