Newborn puppy with cleft palate in China thrives after a month of struggle

A golden retriever in southeastern China’s Anhui province was born with a cleft palate, a condition in which there is an opening in the roof of its mouth. Although the vet said the puppy had only a slim chance of survival, she made it through the critical first month.
