China starts drilling second 10,000-metre hole in search of oil and natural gas

China is drilling its second ultra-deep well in Sichuan as the nation continues its search for oil and gas resources. On July 20, 2023, state television got a look at the project, which involves using a drill that can reach a depth of about 10,000 metres (6 miles). Volatile geopolitical relationships and energy-supply issues have pushed China to try and become self-sufficient in energy.
