Swiss sinologist sues Chinese academic and publisher for copyright infringement

Bryan Wood

A renowned Swiss sinologist is suing his once-favourite student from China and the country’s leading academic publisher for plagiarism. Professor Iso Kern began his cross-continent legal battle in January, after filing the infringement case with the Dongcheng District Court in Beijing. His lawyer told him in March 2024 that the court has accepted the case, and he is now awaiting a trial date. According to legal documents seen by the Post, Kern is suing two defendants for copyright infringement: Ni Liangkang, a professor with Zhejiang University’s department of philosophy, and the Commercial Press, China’s leading publisher of academic works.
