Hong Kong begins to destroy 28 tonnes of illegal ivory stockpile

With the flip of a switch, the first batch of Hong Kong’s near 30-tonne stockpile of seized ivory is now officially on its way to a fiery end. Just over a tonne of the contraband, cut into 50cm chunks and mixed with chemical waste, was loaded into a rotary kiln for incineration at a government waste treatment plant in Tsing Yi on Thursday afternoon.
