A date with lost history: Inside the Dangerous Dinner at a Hong Kong floating restaurant
Sacha Yasumoto’s latest Dangerous Dinner event floated guests back to the 1960s.
Floating restaurants were once landmarks in Hong Kong, drawing tourists to the city from Japan, the US and other places around the world. But the iconic venues have gradually disappeared as the city has developed.
In April 2025, Sacha Yasumoto set out to host an exclusive dinner meant to bring guests back in time. Known in the city as the organiser of Dangerous Dinners, Yasumoto stages events where guests have no idea where they will dine until they arrive at the venue.
For her latest dinner, Yasumoto and her team spent six months restoring a worn-out boat to create an authentic experience of a 1960s-style floating restaurant.
