Youth hostel at Hong Kong’s Kai Tak to be turned into temporary housing for Tai Po fire survivors
The former quarantine facility during the Covid-19 pandemic will now house some who lost their homes in Hong Kong’s deadliest fire in decades.
A youth hostel in Hong Kong’s Kai Tak will be one of the venues to temporarily house those who lost their homes in the city’s deadliest fire in decades. Runway 1331 has opened 500 guest rooms to accommodate up to 2,000 affected residents. The site was originally built during the Covid-19 pandemic to quarantine people. It was then turned into a youth hostel. Volunteers were filmed preparing the rooms for those displaced by the fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po.
