Hongkongers urged to sign up for eMPF platform as defence against scams

Cybersecurity experts are urging Hongkongers to register for the city’s new eMPF platform after scammers stole HK$1.8 million (US$230,000) from three Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) accounts. Posing as the pension fund holders, the fraudsters used high-quality ID forgeries to trick an “electronic Know-Your-Customer” or eKYC verification process.
