Hong Kong rings in 2026 without annual firework displays

Thousands of Hongkongers counted down to 2026 in Central. The event featured music and light shows after the government called off the annual fireworks displays by Victoria Harbour following the deadly inferno in Tai Po that claimed at least 161 lives. Eight landmarks in Central displayed a three-minute light show that also served as 20-second countdown clocks.
