How Lunar New Year in Hong Kong was reported on in the 1960s

Traditions from more than half a century ago were almost the same as today’s, with new clothes, paper decorations and firecrackers welcoming the new year.

Festive Lunar New Year celebrations don’t seem to change in Hong Kong. About 60 years ago, Hongkongers followed similar traditions – buying new clothes for their children, hanging traditional paper decorations and setting off firecrackers for good luck. This is how the city welcomed the new year back in the 1960s, as reported by British Movietone News.
