“The floor is covered in ash, like charcoal after a barbecue,” said Mr Wong, a 40-year-old former Wang Fuk Court resident on April 20, 2026. He was among the 6,000 residents who registered to return home to collect their belongings, nearly five months after the deadly Tai Po fire. About 1,670 households are expected to return to their flats in groups during allocated three-hour slots. The blaze engulfed seven towers in November 2025, killing 168 people and displacing nearly 5,000 residents.
