Hazy spring in Beijing as lingering smog and multiple sandstorms shroud Chinese capital

China’s capital Beijing was in the grip of its third springtime sandstorm on March 22, 2023. Officials said the storm originated in Mongolia and swept across most parts of northern China. Beijing has also faced lingering smog during the month of March, and the recent air quality in the city on many days has hit levels that local officials consider unhealthy.
