Israel and Lebanon have begun a 10-day ceasefire that could ease some of the tension straining Washington’s temporary truce with Tehran regarding the US-Israeli war on Iran. The ceasefire took effect at 5pm EST on April 16, 2026. Announcing the deal, US President Donald Trump said it followed what he described as “excellent conversations” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. He later said that the war on Iran should end “pretty soon”.
