Son Pak Fu was given a patient ride five back on the fence and took the short route home to just get up in the final few metres for an eighth win over the Valley 1,200m from 43 starts. It was the first Valley win for rider Britney Wong but the writing was on the wall last start. Gummy Gummy stayed on nicely for second after a rails run from midfield. He was able to build on a third last start when retrying the Valley 1,200m. Rank outsider Spicy Gold dashed well with one wider out to win a blanket finish for third after a wide with cover trip from behind midfield. It was a return to form after misfiring seven times after a runner-up effort in November. Robot Lucky Star just failed to place after a box-seat run. It was a better effort on his return to the Valley 1,200m at his second start in Class Three. King Lotus made a nice bid late to nearly fill the frame after a patient ride second last from gate eight. It was a return to form over his preferred Valley 1,200m. Specked late Matters Most made inroads late near the inside for sixth after making his run five back and one off the fence. Favourite Honest Witness was a non-factor.

Race Nine : (733) - SEINE HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 SON PAK FU (G265) P N Wong Bumped shortly after the start.

Near the 550 Metres made contact with the running rail.

Near the 150 Metres was bumped by MATTERS MOST when racing tight to the inside of MATTERS MOST which shifted in and away from GUMMY GUMMY before being corrected by its rider.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 RED ELEGANCE (H241) E Brown Bumped shortly after the start.

After the 300 Metres was hampered when taken in by HONEST WITNESS which lay in when giving ground.

Between the 200 Metres and the 150 Metres was held up for clear running.

Horse No 3 MATTERS MOST (K154) E C W Wong Near the 150 Metres lay in and made contact with SON PAK FU, resulting in its rider E C W Wong having to correct his mount.

Jockey Wong stated that the instructions were to obtain a position behind the early leaders as connections were of the view there was fast pace engaged in the event to the inside of MATTERS MOST.

Horse No 4 SPORTS LEGEND (H456) Y L Chung Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 5 GUMMY GUMMY (H089) K C Leung Jumped only fairly.

Shortly after the start shifted out slightly and made contact with SON PAK FU.

K C Leung, who weighed in at 123 lbs, was fined the sum of $5,000 for returning to scale 2 lbs overweight.

Horse No 6 KING LOTUS (K186) L Hewitson Slow to begin.

Horse No 7 SKY CAP (K125) J Moreira J Moreira stated that his mount failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight and raced "flat" A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SKY CAP was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, SKY CAP will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 8 EMBRACE ABERDEEN (L020) M F Poon Bumped shortly after the start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 HONEST WITNESS (K283) Z Purton Near the 300 Metres lay in when giving ground, resulting in its rider Z Purton having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Z Purton stated that his mount raced too keenly in the middle stages when positioned behind SKY CAP and refused to settle.

He said as a result HONEST WITNESS did not finish the race off in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of HONEST WITNESS, a last start winner, was considered disappointing.

Before being allowed to race again, HONEST WITNESS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
